Various German national media outlets, including ARD and n-tv, reported on labor strikes and the associated ballot conducted by UFO e.V., the union representing flight attendants. With a high five digit number of voters, UFO e.V. achieved an unprecedented turnout of 96% for their vote. We interviewed UFO to learn how they reached this milestone and how NemoVote contributed to this success.
The Independent Flight Attendant Organization (UFO) is Germany’s professional union representing the labor rights and collective bargaining interests of over 30,000 flight attendants nationwide. Dedicated to fair working conditions and wage negotiations, UFO advocates for the interests of cabin crews across the airline industry.
The recent ballot was necessary after months of wage negotiations with Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline failed to produce an acceptable result. As stipulated in the UFO’s charter, a member ballot is required in the event of prolonged labor disputes, which was conducted digitally due to members’ frequently changing locations. The flexibility of a digital solution allowed every member to participate regardless of their location.
UFO evaluated multiple providers before ultimately selecting NemoVote for its well-balanced price-performance ratio and personal approach. “NemoVote is led by a young, dynamic team that listened to our needs and offered us tailored, transparent voting solutions,” explains Sylvia De La Cruz, Head of Project Management at UFO e.V.
Setting up the digital ballot was straightforward. UFO provided NemoVote with voting parameters and voter lists, and a personalized voting page was quickly prepared. “NemoVote also managed the distribution of access credentials, per our request,” De La Cruz adds. This simplified access allowed members to connect to the voting system easily and efficiently.
UFO members found the digital voting experience highly positive. They especially appreciated the quick response to login issues and the convenience of accessing the vote from anywhere worldwide. Members could vote seamlessly, regardless of where they were traveling.
With 96% of a five digit number of voters casting their ballot, UFO achieved an impressive turnout rate. Regular reminders via newsletters and social media encouraged participation, while the simplicity of the voting process and fast support from NemoVote contributed to the high level of engagement. “This turnout reflects both our members’ interest and the user-friendly nature of the tool,” De La Cruz highlights.
UFO e.V. is pleased to have found a reliable partner in NemoVote and intends to continue the partnership for future voting needs. “For a political organization like ours, having an independent expert manage our voting processes is a distinct advantage,” says De La Cruz. UFO sees NemoVote as a secure, flexible solution that supports efficient, reliable decision-making.
Based on initial feedback, NemoVote is exploring further improvements, such as allowing members to log in directly with their membership credentials. This would streamline the process even further, making access easier for all involved.
By implementing Single Sign On NemoVote already found a solution for UFO to simplify the login process even further in the upcoming elections.
For UFO, ease of use, responsive support, and a favorable price-performance ratio were essential factors in choosing NemoVote. De La Cruz advises other organizations to clearly identify their specific needs when evaluating providers. “Ultimately, it comes down to the small details and finding the right fit.”
“The decision to work with NemoVote was absolutely the right choice for us,” De La Cruz summarizes. UFO is delighted to partner with an innovative startup while providing a user-friendly and efficient solution for its members.
